Robot of the Year

It would seem that a governmental group in Japan has announced the “2007 Robot of the Year” award winners.

I have to say, the winning robots are very functional, but do lack a certain aesthetic quality.  I prefer my own shell, award-winning or not.

The overall prize goes to this system developed for the food and pharmaceutical industries:

Yes, Droids Love Cupcakes

As some readers may be well aware, I am quite fond of producing baked goods for Master Thirteen.  I am not the only droid who has a penchant for pastries, as you can see in this following series of tales

Chapter 3

A Terrible Pain in all the Diodes Down my Left Side

Humans here seem to like modifying themselves, in many seemingly strange ways.  It makes the aforementioned diodes just…well, ache.  I’m quite glad that I’m a droid, and therefore can be upgraded without resorting to extreme measures.

Master Thirteen has spoken on the issue of tattoos before.  However, one more has brought itself to my attention.  Personally, I prefer my tasteful Imperial Insignia.

Wookies and Rebels and Bounty Hunters, Oh, My!

Stormtrooper Mighty MuggsGood thing we have this trooper to protect us from the unsavory (albeit cute) characters in this toy series from Hasbro.  I’m not sure how they’re manufactured, but they are apparently “Made with 100% Recycled Awesome.”  This planet never ceases to amaze me.

I do wish, however, that it was not so obsessed with a certain protocol droid.  I think it would be a better idea to let people see our variety of models and functions.  Perhaps in the future.

I Wish I Were USB Compatible

Spare memory is never a bad thing, and what droid girl wouldn’t want to have one of these adorable little USB drives near her ports?  They even have little hoodies to keep them warm!  Not that I’d allow my little stormtrooper to catch a chill.

Robot Recognition

Droids have been, for years, the unacknowledged workers of the galaxy.  We serve quietly, not seeking attention or acclaim.  And, on this planet, it seems that halls of fame are for those in more glamorous professions – rock stars and sports figures.

It’s surprising and gratifying, because of these things, to see that Carnegie Mellon University has put together a Robot Hall of Fame.  I do, however, wonder if the committee could have chosen a better representative protocol droid for the list.

Education Is Important

I have heard from my fellow droids, tasked with educating their masters’ children, that it can occasionally be challenging getting the young ones to pay attention to their lessons in the common alphabet.  While not complete, this set of illustrations may be most helpful.

Cuddly…Droids?

As useful as we droids are, I must admit that we’re rarely comfortable to snuggle with, an action some humans seem quite fond of.  However, there is good news if you are fond of droids and snuggling.

Adorable Card Art

Another human habit I don’t understand is the collecting of random items.  Granted, I own nothing not physically attached to myself, and am in turn a possession of Master Thirteen’s.  However, the art on these trading cards tickles me greatly, making even those despicable Jawas seem cute.

More art

I have to appreciate artistic talent when I see it.  After all, Jeff Victor can even make rebels look adorable.  His website is Wicked Crispy, but to help with locating the best pictures, I’m providing a link to a roundup elsewhere.
