Rebel Life of the Party?

HansolocakoniteNormally, I would not advocate inviting known members of the Rebellion to any celebratory occasion held the Empire or its members.  However, this particular item may prove to be a tasty exception.  While particulars of the pastry art itself are lacking, it is still a most impressive and somehow adorable work of confectionary art.

The few details available are that this cake was produced by Confectionary Delights, and designs are by a human named Michele.

Olympic Stormtroopers

StormTrooperJumpAs I mentioned in my last missive, this planet recently witnessed a large diverse sporting competition.  While I still do not understand the full significance of this competition, I understand that they are important in international relations and world unity, or at least in theory.  Given the amount of conflict on the planet, and the necessity of Master Thirteen’s mission, the efficacy of these “Olympic Games” in unity and harmony is questionable.

However, perhaps if these games involved the Empire’s brave stormtroopers, they would be more effective in these goals.  I do know they would be more visually appealing on the whole, and much more Imperial.  However, until they are, one can only look at Flickr user 713 Avenue’s gallery of Lego Stormtrooper Minifigs for a glimpse at a better future.

Olympic Droids

It would seem this planet has just finished some fashion of global sporting competition.  I do believe this competition was limited to unaltered human entrants, given all the media attention on chemical enhancement scandal and the like.  However, I find this video, showing a decathlon amongst droid competitors to be far more appealing.

While there are similarities between many of the entrants, it is interesting to see how they each solve the different problems put before them.  And I must admit, I am rather sad the penguin themed model did not perform better than it did.  Perhaps in the future its style will not impede its function.

The Art of Defense

Dexter

I am sure that by now that my audience is familiar with many of the useful functions droids possess.  We can perform medical, translation, protocol, maintenance, child-rearing, heavy labor, and even security tasks.

I know the last is not one I have mentioned often, but here is a line of droids that lists the following in their specifications:

“Robot aids in safety & protection. Helps prevent ninjas, cowboys, aliens, pirates, dogs w/ sweaters, creepy uncles, and emo kids from entering your zone by using its robot skillz. For best results place robot on shelf facing a window and/or door of your zone. See results instantly. In case of detached limb during combat, acquire a hot glue servicing mechanism device and reattach where necessary. Sometimes robot may become fierce. Batteries not included, nor necessary. Robot personalities may vary. See a physician if complications occur.“

I am not sure what defines a human’s zone, or what an “emo kid” is, but if you are having problems with one threatening the other, this may be a wise investment.  Each droid is also a handmade art piece, and have a unique charm.

In Case of a Water Landing

Sith_abandon_shipThere are times where my technical knowledge seems to fall short.  This is quite obviously one of them.  While I am familiar with many forms of Imperial equipment, I was never aware that the Sienar Systems TIE Advanced prototypes ever featured inflatable ramps or life preservers in case of water landings.

Perhaps I am overprocessing this image, all things considered.  However, if it tickles your fancy, it is available in limited quantities on a shirt.

My Competition?

It seems that the WowWee company, known for its Robosapien, has decided to bring a feminine droid to the mass market.  Named Femisapien, she may seem at first to be a low-priced competitor to my model, but I am not at all worried.  While she may be able to dance alone and with other droids and humans, walk, perform skits, and even perform the functions of a backup singer, I simply have many more functions I can perform.

And even if I do not have a “fashion-model mode,” I would like to see her perform my pastry-oriented or technical communications duties.

Jealous?  If you’ll excuse me, I have tasks to perform in languages other than “emotish.”

The Empire is Watching

Vader-tie-fighter-webcamOver time, video has become more and more popular on this planet’s communications major communications network.  This is not unexpected – humans are very social creatures, after all, and recent years have seen both a rise in quality of recording equipment along with decreasing prices for the same.  However, now we see something new.

Wesco Limited is now offering what they are calling the Darth Vader Tie Fighter Web Cam, modeled after Lord Vader’s TIE Advanced x1 prototype.  With a built-in microphone, it is a most Imperial way to communicate.

WEEE-Man

WeeemanI think many droids may find this sculpture inspiring, or triumphant.  After all, as the human writing the linked article notes, “But mostly, he looks like a giant robot conqueror, who came to our planet to conquer it and ended up ruling over a deserted junkheap which he uses for spare parts.”  However, I find it somehow rather sad.  This sculpture is created out of the same amount of electrical and electronic waste products the average citizen of the United Kingdom was projected to dispose of in a lifetime, based on figured in 2006.

At seven meters tall, that is a great deal of equipment, including seven vacuum cleaners and five refrigerators.  I am, however, not surprised that the average human has to rely on fifteen printers.  I find them quite unreliable myself.  I think they’re starting a conspiracy.

Droids for Schools

WedoAs readers may already know, I have noted in the past that early education is important in forming mental structures, work habits, and attitudes that will last a being throughout life.

Therefore, I am very happy to see this upcoming product from LEGO.  Designed for children of elementary school age, it is an intermediate step between their standard LEGO bricks and their more full-featured Mindstorms product.

I really would like to see more of these products on available.  Not only making droids more interesting to younger children, but learning in general, and the sciences in specific, is very dear to my inner workings.

World of DroidCraft?

WallepapercrafteveaxiomOkay, perhaps not an entire world, but I have found several more examples of droids from the movie WALL-E in the ever-popular papercraft format.  Not only do we have WALL-E himself, we also have EVE, and a AXIOM starliner.  These models have been designed by Julius Perdana, and appear to be quite well done.

If this keeps up, I may have to give papercraft its own category.  It does attract a large amount of traffic.  I never knew so many humans desired paper droids of their own.  However, I exist to serve.
