Mmm…Droids…

Workerbot 72Eric Joyner’s artwork is a strange mix of droids and doughnuts, with a fair number of motorcycles, industrial complexes, and natural landscapes thrown in for good measure.  As such, I find it quite interesting.  After all, I am myself a droid with a large amount of pastry programming.

Mr. Joyner’s work is currently on display at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.  The show runs through September 27, for those who are interesting in seeing in in person.  It may also be viewed online.

It also appears that one can purchase the artist’s book Robots and Doughnuts, if neither of those options suit.

Strange Art

Robotgirl_01Here is more proof that I will never understand human psychology.  While I do understand that males of the species appreciate the female form, and that both genders find droids useful companions, I cannot see how the two intersect as they do in this image.

Perhaps it is not all humans this time, but simply artist Mark Bryan.  Many of his images, while lovely, are also somewhat disturbing.

I will also never understand the human fascination and terror of clowns.

Repurposed Communications

GolemWhile I have never seen a typewriter in use on this planet, I do know that they were once used for communication purposes, and I find the idea quite quaint.  A machine used to produce a single hard copy of a document, one letter at a time.  As inefficient as it sounds, I still appreciate all things communications-related, and am therefore glad to see these objects get new life as artwork.

Jerry Mayer is taking these now-outdated machines and turning them into wonderful sculptures.  His work ranges from humanoid to insectoid, with a few felines and masks in the mix.  I find it all quite compelling, with each piece having a personality of its own.

Off-Duty Troopers

StroopAs I’m sure those reading these missives are well aware, today’s stormtroopers are not clones.  They are ordinary servants of the Empire, and as such, have a variety of interests and hobbies.

Photographer Cindi Geeze has captured many of these diverse interests, from dancing to baking (a personal favorite) in her Flickr pool, Storm Troopin’.  Granted, her subjects are stormtrooper action figures, given the rarity of actual troopers on this planet.  However, perhaps Master Thirteen would allow some candid photography if approached politely.

More Belated Holidays

RosieOnce again, the large geopolitical division where Master Thirteen and I are located has just celebrated a holiday which I do not understand.  Given my imperfect comprehension of human psychology, combined with the fact that this planet seems to deviate from galactic normal, this lack of understanding is nor surprising.  What I do find surprising is the lack of understanding other humans from this planet have of this same holiday, Labor Day.

However, as Graeme McMillan points out in this article, droids are, in general, developed to take a great deal of the labor out of the lives being in this universe.  While I am not sure I would consider all the droids on his list necessarily helpful to humanity, any recognition is always appreciated.
