Droids in the Kitchen

Today we have some from the recent International Food Machinery and Technology Exhibition in Tokyo.  These are a selection of droids designed to assist in the kitchen, in varying capacities.

I am a bit disappointed, however, that there does not seem to be a pastry droid.

Pink…Most Pink…

Cleansing Rituals

bc72_self_maintenanceAs most are well aware, proper equipment maintenance and cleaning is vital.  The Empire does not just provide order, but also a tidy series of role models in the process.

As one of the highest of those role models, Lord Vader must take special care in his daily routines.  While I am surprised at the cleaning solution he uses, I must admit that I am even more surprised that he does not have a droid to assist him.

Hydrating Droids

kidsstuffWhile in most situations, droids and water are not the closest of companions, these bottles may present a different case.  From several manufacturers, including SIGG, 3d Rose, Globally Cute, and Bilt Vite, there is no lack of choice in design.

More Droids for the Younger Set

beepFor those of you who are looking for more ways to introduce small children to droids, Robot Snob has found not one, but three droid companions for young humans.  They are all quite adorable, but I am particularly fond of Manhattan Toy’s Beep Bots Robo, pictured here.

An Astromech Meets a Bad End

bc82_scrap_metalI always knew the Rebel droid was likely to meet an unpleasant fate.  I just was not sure what it was.  Thanks to this shirt from ThinkGeek, we now know the truth.

The Sweeter Side of the Force

atatcakeAfter the rather unfortunate cakes from the other day, the Sunday Sweets feature on Cake Wrecks has some very impressive cakes with familiar themes, such as this AT-AT cake, surrounded by Ewok cupcakes.  Even more impressive is the fact that the cake is almost entirely fondant-free, which is both a technical challenge, and a less popular, but often better-tasting choice in pastry.

There are several other cakes of note to be seen, as well as some of the Empire’s finest.  It is most certainly worthwhile viewing.

More from Maker Faire

r2d2faireThere seems to be a plethora of droid-related projects coming from Maker Faire this year.  In what may be the last update here, we have not one, but four copies of a certain astromech, at a total cost of approximately $10,000 and two years of time.

Timely, Unfortunate Pastry

Darth WreckYet another in a series of weekend events, this weekend is the end of Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™.  In anticipation of her visit, Jen at the ever-entertaining Cake Wrecks site has produced a gallery of approppriate cakes celebrating….I’m still not quite sure what.  I’m not entirely sure she is either, but that seems to be a great deal of the fun.

Another Droid Event This Weekend

robogamesFor those of you who are looking for a droid-related activity in the San Francisco area this weekend, you may want to investigate the sixth annual RoboGames, held from Friday through Sunday.  With more than 70 events, it’s sure to have something to interest any droid fan.
