Stitch Wars

Stitch-wars-thumb-500x363-23754While I cannot, in general, support either tauntaun abuse or Rebel artists, I know that some members of the audience may be interested in the Stitch Wars exhibit taking place through August 29 at Lauderhill, Florida’s Bear and Bird Gallery.

Maker Faire Recap – Arts and Crafts

makercraftIn a slightly different look at last weekend’s Maker Faire, Bonnie Burton from the Star Wars website and the Star Wars Crafts communtity presents this look at familar themed crafts from the event.

That’s No Piñata

PinataMuch more than a mere piñata, I cannot decide if this celebratory terror is a good or a bad choice for either the Cinco de Mayo holiday, or what some are calling Star Wars Day.  While care has been taken in reproducing an Imperial vessel, its later destruction is bothersome, as is the implication in the candy filling.

Droid of Various Shapes and Sizes

Robot_breadandbadgerOnce again, I find myself sharing droid related arts and crafts.  However, today’s offering contains extra value, for it is not simply one piece, or the work of one artist, but a list of several craftspeople and their droid pieces.

Quite a few pieces on this list are functional, such as the glass shown, and all of them are decorative.  There is even a tutorial for fashioning some of your own.

Plush Astromechs?

Tb-r2d2amiguI have shared a great many droids in these missives, in many shapes, sizes, and materials.  Today’s offering appears to be a mixed media astromech, most likely meant to be a certain, ever-popular model.  While it appears to be mostly crochet, I spot what appears to be some felt applique, buttons, and other findings rounding out this piece.

Unfortunately, the maker is unknown, so more details cannot be found.  There seem to be several people looking for the creator, so if you have any information about this little droid, please forward it on.

Feline Friendly Droids

cattoysI would just like to take a moment to remind my audience that droids, no matter how well-constructed, are not suitable feline entertainment devices.

If you are in need of something suitably entertaining for your cat, may I suggest making use of this tutorial on the construction of a MSE droid catnip toy?  Is it certain to be much less expensive than repair bills for either your droid or your feline companion.

Counting the Days

AdventWhile this project may be a little late for this year, it may come in useful for next year, or as a gift for this one.  Perhaps it will merely delight you enough that you must craft it to enjoy for the remainder of this festive season.

I am not entirely sure of the history or traditions behind the Advent Calendar, but any project involving counting is rather pleasing to me.

In any case, you will find the directions for this Star Wars Advent Calendar on the Official Star Wars blog.

Droidel

DroidelIt would seem that this holiday season I had previously noted does not contain just one holiday, but several, and from multiple religious traditions.  Humans, as ever, strain my logic circuits.

Today we have a toy traditionally connected to the holiday called Hanukkah, or Chanukah, the dreidel.  Of course, this version is not entirely traditional, as it has been fashioned to resemble an over-popular astromech.

DIY Droid?

AntonAny time I look at access records for this site, it becomes quite obvious that there are those with craft skill in the readership.  One of most frequent search terms that shows up is “papercraft,” and I am sure that there are those of other creative persuasions as well.

Today I do not have any paper creations to share, but needlecraft, instead.  Here we have the adorable Anton, a crochet project from Design-Shop.  He requires some intermediate crochet knowledge, but appears to be worth any amount of effort for such an appealing droid companion.

World of DroidCraft?

WallepapercrafteveaxiomOkay, perhaps not an entire world, but I have found several more examples of droids from the movie WALL-E in the ever-popular papercraft format.  Not only do we have WALL-E himself, we also have EVE, and a AXIOM starliner.  These models have been designed by Julius Perdana, and appear to be quite well done.

If this keeps up, I may have to give papercraft its own category.  It does attract a large amount of traffic.  I never knew so many humans desired paper droids of their own.  However, I exist to serve.
