The Sleep of the Imperial

504x_imperialThere have been a great many things featured in these missives before.  Pastries, clothing, droids, and various products,  However, I do not seem to have an entry for sleep furniture in my databanks.  Hopefully this is due to an actual lack of entries, and not data loss from recent system issues.

In either case, I will no longer be able to claim this fact.  The image at left is a bed fashioned by a father for his properly Imperial son.

If you would like more details, the creator has provided them at Instructables.

An Imperial Wake-Up Call

VaderclockMy research has shown that some humans wake easily in the mornings, and are ready to start the day, with a bright attitude and positive disposition.

The majority of the species, however, does not understand these individuals.

If you are one of that majority, you may wish to consider this alarm clock, fashioned after Lord Vader.  It features not only three sound effects, but audio inputs, and AM/FM radio.

Ancient Music

While the sound on the video could be much better, benefiting mostly from a quiet room, one must admit that the feat of reconfiguring this old flatbed scanner to perform the Imperial March is quite an impressive one.

Let’s Go Fly a TIE

Tie-Fighter_kidWhile it seems that the month traditionally considered optimum for kite flying has just passed, the activity is not limited to just one month the year.  This may be good news for many, given the new availability of this kite, based on Lord Vader’s TIE Fighter.

It should be available now at retail locations including Sams, TRU, BJ’s, Target, and Meijer’s, along with two Rebel options, the X-Wing and the Millennium Falcon.  However, the choice is clear.

Also new are several toys meant to be used in water – a rather disturbing concept for me, I must admit.  These include X-wing and Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Starfighter, both over five feet in length and including direct-draw water cannon, Millennium Falcon and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter, both exceeding three feet in length, a Death Star Beach Ball, and a forthcoming R2–D2 drink server, expected next year.  These will be available at Target stores in the US, and Walmart Canada.

Droids from Trash

R2casemodIt is unsurprising that those who seem most interested in droids are also often computer enthusiasts.  Such seems to be the case for Frenk Janse, who created this rather amazing computer case out of a simple unwanted trash bin and a good deal of skill.

If you’re interested in details, he has provided a great many, along with photographs, here.  The total cost of his project at the time the guide was written was approximately $120.  I will assume that does not include the trash bin.

Music and a Movie for a Saturday

I cannot find much to say about this, except that it is a brilliant marriage of science, music, and the Empire.  Also, please, do not experiment at home without proper understanding and safety precautions.

Musical II, Electric Hoth

ATipoddockIf you found the AT-AT Boombox from the last missive a bit too outdated, perhaps you would prefer this iPod dock instead?  I do have to wonder at the unconventional color, however.

Hoth on Ice – A Musical

At-at11-thumb-520x347While there do not seem to be any details of this project, it is still capturing the attention and imagination of correspondents all over the planetary communications network.  It is quite easy to see why.

Showing Your Support

support-our-troopsMany humans seem to have a fair amount of equipment to carry from location to location.  Without a standard-issue backpack, or storage compartment, this can pose a logistics problem.  Thankfully, there is now a solution to this problem that also shows your support for the brave troopers of the Empire.

Truly Strong in the Air

DarthairheadThere are many human hobbies I do not understand.  One of these is the practice of hot air balloon construction and travel.  It seems horribly inefficient to me.  However, there are a great many enthusiasts of the practice, who gather for events such as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, where this quite Imperial Balloon was spotted.

Lord Vader, or at least his balloon facsimile, had an escort of stormtroopers to keep the masses at bay, as is proper.  There are more pictures of this majestic balloon at the link below.
